The dangers of smoking are exaggerated
Think about it ... why do people want to scare people by
exaggerating the consequences of smoking? The dangers of smoking are widely
known. Adding it is useless.
Here are some interesting facts to remember:
Tobacco smoke
The inhaled smoke of a cigarette contains more than 4,000
chemical compounds of which more than 50 are carcinogenic.
"100% natural"
or "organic" cigarettes are as harmful as cigarettes produced by
tobacco multinationals. Any plant that burns naturally releases chemical
compounds and the tobacco plant is no exception.
The chemical substances released by the combustion of tobacco
products come from the soil, from the manufacturers and from the combustion
itself (burning something creates new chemical compounds). All these substances
(of natural and industrial origin) are poisons when inhaled.
Physical and psychological dependence
Tobacco, because of the nicotine it contains, is a drug.
Nicotine addiction is as powerful as that caused by cocaine and heroin due to
the combination of physical and psychological dependence.
Tobacco has a physical grip on you. It relieves you of the
symptoms of withdrawal that he himself has installed ... which means that you
have to take it to avoid the discomfort of these symptoms. It's a vicious
circle.
Smoking creates a powerful psychological dependence. Every
time you take a puff, you unconsciously associate the well-being brought by
this puff with what you are experiencing at that time. It does not matter if
the situation is pleasant or unpleasant, the cigarette makes you feel good.
This phenomenon encourages you to continue to use tobacco to feel the same
well-being.
The negative effects on health
Tobacco smoke kills more than 37,000 people each year in
Canada (about 10,400 in Quebec), four times more than deaths from murder,
alcohol, traffic accidents and suicides combined.
Smoking causes 16 cancers and is responsible for one-third
of all cancer cases.
Tobacco causes 21 chronic diseases, including asthma,
diabetes and erectile dysfunction.
Smokers have a higher probability of developing or
aggravating psychological health problems such as anxiety, depression,
nervousness, etc.
Smoking causes the skin to age prematurely: wrinkles are
more numerous and deeper, the complexion becomes more greyish, and so on.
Smoking reduces life expectancy by 10 years, in addition
to decreasing quality of life (sleep disturbances, difficult physical exertion,
etc.).
Good news: if you decide to quit smoking, the majority of
the damage done to your body by tobacco smoke will fade away and you will reap
many benefits! So why continue smoking?
