Pollution :
Pollution is more and more present in our
daily lives. It is a degradation of the environment by non-natural materials
that diffuse in several environments constituting our universe.
Thus it intervenes as well in the water, as
in the air, or the soil, it is mostly due to a human activity ...
Thus it has significant repercussions on our
health that should be identified. But fortunately we have become aware of its
dangers and we can act at the level of states and countries but also at our
"small" level as we will see in detail because this part is perhaps
the best response to this "enemy" ".
Water pollution :
Depending on the causes, water pollution can
take different forms, it can be thermal, bacteriological, chemical etc ...
Humans use more and more pollutants (eg cleaning products, fertilizer, heating)
and it deteriorates the quality of the water. Normally the water is renewed and
cleaned naturally by the sedimentation process, the pollutants are gradually
diluted but this process takes more and more time because now these products
are more numerous and more aggressive. Pollutants often come from factories,
sewage treatment plants, skeptic systems, which then pour into springs and
groundwater.
There are also other pollutants such as
fertilizers, chemicals including hydrocarbons, animal waste etc.
Air pollution :
As soon as the air we breathe is considered
harmful to our health and our environment, we say that the air is polluted.
This pollution is of course much more present in the city because of cars, trucks,
heating buildings. In the absence of wind, or it is very hot, this pollution is
accentuated. Pollution is often due to human activity, but it can also be of
natural origin, such as plants that discharge a lot of pollen into the air, or
volcanic emissions, and so on.
Fortunately the air quality is analyzed (with
a scale from 1 to 10) it allows to classify the quality of the air. If it is
too important, actions must be put in place on the one hand to reduce the
levels of rejection, and on the other hand to reduce the consequences of these
gases that are harmful to health.
Pollution in soils:
For a long time, men adapted to soils and
climates to cultivate what they needed. The natural cycles of the plants were
respected, as well as the quality of the soils. But nowadays the development of
intensive agriculture has caused soil pollution.
Farmers are using more and more fertilizers
or products that can control weeds and pests and are not degradable in the
wild. These products are then driven to groundwater or streams that will
pollute crops, and areas of human activities. Industrial installations can also
be responsible for pollution, just as the rejection of livestock or farms, this
pollution will contaminate soils, streams. Sometimes the release of ash from a
volcano following a major eruption, or the release of radioactive elements
following nuclear tests can also contaminate the soil.
The effects of pollution on health:
Depending on the nature of the pollutant, the
health impacts are not the same. For example, sulfur dioxide is a gas that
causes respiratory problems, while other gases are carcinogenic. Sport is not
recommended in a polluted environment because it will lead to greater
absorption of pollutants. The consequences of pollution on health can be: -
Respiratory diseases - Cardiovascular diseases - Skin problems - Nausea -
Headaches - Cancers
We know today that reducing atmospheric
pollution makes it possible to avoid a certain number of deaths a year,
especially in large cities.
Some examples of prevention actions:
- To deepen the state of the knowledge of the
circles
- Application of control and monitoring plans
for pesticide residues
- Manage contaminated environments and
disseminate good information to the population.
Example at your level to fight against
pollution
-Do not let the shower run while you soap (or
shampoo)
- in the shower, 1 minute of flow to get wet,
2 minutes of flow to rinse
-Take a shower every other day or two (and
make a toilet with a glove (and yes) the other days)
-Ask your parents how trash bins work
