The causes of road accidents can
be varied, however the majority of accidents are due to:
non-compliance with traffic
regulations (in 39% of fatal accidents in 2016 * - safety distances, priority
refusals, dangerous overtaking, misinterpretation and forbidden direction);
an excess speed (responsible for
32% of fatal accidents);
driving under the influence of
alcohol (approximately 30% of fatal accidents);
a lack of attention (distracted
attention, inattention, distraction = 9% of fatal accidents - use of the phone
while driving represents almost 1 in 10 personal injuries);
driving under the influence of
narcotics (22% of global accidents);
fatigue and drowsiness (=
hypovigilance responsible for 12% of global accidents);
taking medication (3 to 4% of
global accidents);
driving without a valid license
(4.2% of drivers involved in a fatal accident and 2.6% of those involved in a
personal injury accident).
