What are the causes and consequences
of smoking?
Reply :
Smoking is an addictive practice whose causes are essentially social. It
is, indeed, only by mimicry of the gesture of a smoker or by response to an
advertisement or a propaganda that can be born the desire to smoke.
When we smoke, the risks are many and very diverse.
Health risks: Cardio-vascular diseases and respiratory diseases that can
lead to death, cancers, especially lungs. In France, 66,000 deaths are directly
caused by tobacco smoke and one in two dies prematurely because of tobacco and
often after many years of illness.
Environmental hazards: Tobacco smoke is composed of 4,000 constituents of
which several hundred are carcinogenic, toxic and even toxic for reproduction.
Carbon monoxide is one of these components, its absorption causes an action on
the composition of the blood, in particular by the rarefaction of oxygen. The
spread of this gas affects the health of smokers and those around them, but it
also hurts the balance of the planet.
Social risks: The dependence in which tobacco locks up most of its
consumers causes irrepressible reactions of their own to create problems of
cohabitation or neighborhood. It is common to see smokers impose their smoking
in places where the law prohibits smoking and even less rare to see them impose
on their children or their neighbors smoky atmospheres where the law does not
prohibit smoking , by car, at home, on their balcony, in the stands of a
stadium, on the terrace of a café, ..
Risks of impoverishment of the poorest people: In some cases, tobacco can
reach one-third of a family's budget at the expense of basic food and clothing
needs.
But beyond these individual risks, tobacco gives rise to mass delinquency,
both for the mafia organizations that live from smuggling and counterfeiting to
the detriment of tobacconists and the colossal enrichment of multinationals
whose sole purpose is to market a product that kills one of its consumers in
two.
