The main factors of accident
Excessive or unsuitable
speed remains the main cause of mortality on the roads of France. She appears
in one in three fatal accidents. Drunk driving and driving with narcotics are
the second leading cause of fatalities, followed by refusal of priority and
carelessness while driving.
The analysis of the file of
the alleged perpetrators of fatal road accidents (APAM) between September 2014
and December 2017 shows that the speed factor is the leading cause of fatal
accidents for 45% of the alleged perpetrators aged between 18 and 24 years, and
41% for those between 25 and 34 years old. But on two-way roads, these rates
rise to 47% and 45% respectively.
In this same file, the
alcohol factor is overrepresented in older authors (27% of 25-34 year olds), as
is the illegal use of narcotics (15% of this same age group).
Inattentiveness at the wheel
and difficulties in meeting priorities are more pronounced among accused
persons with much older accidents. They represent respectively 13% and 24% of
those aged 75 and over.
