Broaden your vision of the world
To travel is to show more perspective on
the vagaries of life. You learn to do without things that you thought were
necessary. One can even discover the qualities of the society that is his and
appreciate more the chance that one has to be part of it. When we realize that
there are different ways of seeing the world, we can learn to move away from
our own associations. This phenomenon is particularly evident at work if you
engage in conversation with someone who does not speak French very well.
Language barriers will force you to take your time and explain some basic
notions that seem obvious to you. You will discover that not everyone has the
same understanding of these notions. Assumptions differ from one culture to
another, and even from one region to another in the same country. Travel brings
us into contact with different conceptions that awaken the imagination and
stimulate reflection. This experience can soften the rigid cognitive habits
that may be preventing us from moving forward. New avenues open, what better
way to learn tolerance?
To discover oneself
"On the road, the best is to get
lost, when one gets lost, the projects give way to surprises and it is then,
but only then, that the journey begins", Nicolas Bouvier (writer,
photographer, traveler ). Traveling leads us to specify our values, our
priorities and our motivations. It also allows to discover unknown aspects of
our personality. Indeed we do not travel as we go to the cinema. At the same
time director and actor, the place of the traveler is rather on the screen than
in the room. Traveling represents a challenge different from that of everyday
life, which is what makes it so interesting: developing our spirit of
initiative, autonomy, resourcefulness and self-confidence. To travel is to
stretch and sometimes it is to discover hidden talents and new passions like
photography (the pleasure of hunting images), learning foreign languages, cooking
(some typical local dishes do not did not they make you want to cook them at
home?), dancing (after dancing on traditional African or South American
rhythms) and so on. Interfering in local life and culture is the best way to
learn. I personally was fascinated by Morocco: the intense sunlight flooding
its landscapes, its rich and colorful craft aroused in me the desire to paint.
To keep fit
Remain young in heart and mind and in
good health. This is at least what reveals a 2014 analysis in the United States
that establishes links of cause and effect between travel and lower risk of
heart disease and depressive disorders. According to the report of this
analysis, produced by the Global Commission on Aging and the Transamerica
Center for Retirement Studies, women who take vacations every six years or less
are more likely to suffer a heart attack. or coronary heart disease than those
who volunteer twice a year. Men who do not take an annual vacation would be 30%
more likely to die of a heart attack. According to a neuropsychologist quoted
by the Chicago Tribune, traveling could even reduce the risk of contracting
Alzheimer's disease. "When you expose your brain to a new, new or complex
environment, its neurons develop and increase its performance," says the
expert. Even the stress of some trips can be beneficial, forcing the brain to
stay alert.
The study also showed that 59% of
Americans cherish the dream of going on a trip to retirement, and that the most
meaningful journeys on their well-being are those they do with family or
friends.
