Do all smokers run the same
risks?
The risks of tobacco-related
illness depend on several factors, mainly:
• age of onset of smoking
• the total number of years
that we smoked
• the amount of tobacco
consumed daily
• how to smoke (deep
aspirations, number of puffs, cigarette held between the lips, etc.)
• type of tobacco (additives,
tar and nicotine content)
• individual genetic factors.
What if I smoke very little?
There is not a minimum number
of cigarettes that is harmless. Any cigarette consumed causes, puff after puff,
the passage in the blood of thousands of toxic chemicals.
Is rolling tobacco less
toxic?
No! Many misconceptions are
circulating about rolling tobacco. Some smokers consume it not only because it
is cheaper, but also because they consider it a lesser evil because more
"natural". Nothing is more wrong. If it is cheaper, rolling tobacco
is much more harmful.
The amount of nicotine, tar
and carbon smoked by a smoker with a hand-rolled cigarette is 3 to 6 times
higher compared to industrial cigarettes. This figure varies depending on the
type of tobacco, cigarette paper and how the cigarette was rolled.
It is known that smoke from a
conventional cigarette contains no less than 7,000 chemicals of which 40 are
carcinogenic. On rolling tobacco, additional products are added to prevent
tobacco from clumping together.
In addition, even if the
tobacco is packed into the cigarette, there will always be more air between the
fibers, which fuels the combustion. With this higher heat, the toxic substances
release themselves with more force and penetrate deeper into the airways.
And ... most smokers of
rolling tobacco inhale more smoke to make up for the lack
of nicotine.
