Happiness seems to be the quest for
humanity, because we have been addressing this subject since the beginning of
time. Epicurus already spoke about it more than two millennia ago! But there
are probably as many definitions of happiness as there are people in the world.
Happiness does not fall from the sky. To
be happy, you must clearly give yourself that goal in your life. How can we
bring happiness to the heart of ourselves?
Pleasure, a very ephemeral
"happiness"
Ah, live happy ... The quest for
happiness seems universal. But happiness should not be confused with pleasure,
which is what consumer society often leads us to do.
There is a distinction between intense
moments of pleasure, such as joy and euphoria, and a deeper sense of
well-being.
The euphoria is very nice, but comes from
the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin by our brain. Euphoria, like
amorous passion, is a second state that our brain naturally gives us in
particular circumstances. But like drug use, this effect can not last forever
because our body gets used to it.
It is therefore an ephemeral pleasure.
Very intense, but ephemeral. With the first girlfriend of my life, I was lucky
that the passion of love lasts almost a year. In all, we stayed almost three
years together.
In the end, everything was fine between
us, but we left each other together because we both wanted to find that intense
feeling of passion with someone else. We were like drug addicts who were
looking for the euphoria of the first shoot ...
We were young. This error allowed me to
understand that love, the true, the one that brings its share of lasting
happiness, does not correspond to the passion of love. Some people will never
enjoy a long and happy love life because they will always seek to reproduce the
feeling of passionate love ...
It is possible to generalize this
principle to the whole life. Some people will never be happy simply because
they will pursue chimeras. These chimeras can be consumer goods, status,
recognition and prestige, passion in love, in short, everything that brings a
shoot of euphoria. But they will feel empty and will not be happy.
