The water
pollution:
Water
pollution is contamination by waste, chemicals or micro-organisms.
Water
pollution is due:
to
agriculture (because of pesticides and fertilizers).
household
waste (drugs and biocides released via wastewater and that treatment plants and
lagooning do not know how to treat).
Phosphates
pollute the watercourse by a phenomenon called eutrophication: the stream is
asphyxiated by the proliferation of algae for which phosphate acts as
fertilizer. The water is polluted by the oil spills but especially by the oil
discharges of the boats.
In many
places, wastewater is not treated before it is discharged because it is very
expensive. As a result, a large amount of wastewater is discharged into the
sea. This can cause, for example, algae that reproduce very rapidly. They cover
the surface of the sea and may clog the gills of fish. Wastewater treatment is
therefore important for ecology. Every year thousands of fish die because of
pollution.
