Traveling in English-speaking countries

One of the important things to remember when traveling to English-speaking countries around the world is that English spoken in a country may be different from the one we know. In fact, if English is not spoken in the same way in all English-speaking countries, several pronunciations can coexist in one and the same country. Take for example the United Kingdom's cqs. A Highlander will speak a different English language than a Canary Wharf banker. What's more, the vocabulary and meaning of words can also vary from country to country. You may know, for example, that flip flops are called thongs in Australia, whereas in the United States the word thong has a totally different meaning.

Australians also use a lot of abbreviations instead of using diminutives. See you this arvo is the word "afternoon" which means "afternoon". In the same way, if a person puts meat on the barbie, she decorates a doll with a piece of meat, but grills it on the barbecue. To make it easy for us, some English speakers like to make fun of Australians by saying the phrase shrimp on the barbie, because of the Australian pronunciation of "i" in the word shrimp, followed by the word barbie. However, most Australians use the word prawn more often than shrimp to talk about a shrimp.
