What are the advantages and
disadvantages of this "new mode of communication"?
The advantages: in our time when
everything must go faster and faster and take the
less time, where we have to reduce
the space to the maximum it is obvious that the systems of the blogs, the SMS
and the cats make it possible to transform the spatio-temporal dimension:
- speed and ease of communication
(lightening orthographic and grammatical norms) = sort of democratization,
massification and egalitarianism in the face of writing. Some blogs tend to use
more and more different forms of SMS and cats-specific abbreviations.
- Interconnection for blogs: they
often contain multiple external links to other sources of information. These
links can also be directed to other blogs, we speak of "inter-blog
mesh".
- development of the personalism:
disinhibiting effect of the virtual exchange.
- Facilitating spaces for
professional and personal meetings (emotional, friendly).
The inconvenients :
- Complexity of understanding of
the multiple standards used to match.
- malleability of the language too
free for young people who have not yet set institutional standards.
- in the face of the orthographic
and grammatical abuse of these young people, it is sometimes necessary to read
the message aloud to grasp its meaning.
- the freedom of tone at the blog
level: it is a site placed under the responsibility of its author who can
unfortunately overcome norms (insults targeted, direct, suggestions inciting
violence, proof is the article Frédérique Roussel in Liberation.fr of November
5, 2005: "Suburbs, blogs hatch around Clichy-Sur-Jungle, homage to Bouna
and Zyed, calls for revolt or calm intersect on the web").
Some problems resulting from our
reflections:
- Does this new use of the
language (coded language) mean that it is a new communication?
- Can there be a segregative
effect in the thematization of blogs?
- What are the linguistic and syntactic risks of these
evolutions, of these liberties at the level of the language?
